NAIDOC Week
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.
This year’s theme – Get up! Stand up! Show up! – encourages all of us to champion institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations.
Road Safety
On Monday 22 June,a Road Safety meeting was held with a Senior Advisor from Road Safety SEQ South to review the entry and exit to the drop off and pick off area. Another meeting is being organised with Road Safety, Brisbane City Council and Queensland Police.
School Opinion Survey
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 12 August 2022. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 11 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and cargivers, 2022. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. School computers/tablets will be available.
Workplace Health and Safety Evacuation Procedure
On Friday 25 June, we held our Term 2 evacuation procedure. Teachers and students were prompt in their response, moving to the oval and having everyone accounted for. We successfully evacuated students and staff in 10.39 minutes. These drills are critical to teach children what to do in the event that we needed to evacuate or lockdown the school.
Part of our evacuation procedure is to account for people signed in through our Pass Tab at the office, this includes any volunteers, relief teachers or contractors working in the school, please make sure you sign in at the office.
Have a great week.
