EQ’s policy on received gifts and benefits

As we move into the Christmas period, I know that many parents wish to give teacher’s a gift to thank them for the year.  I wanted to draw your attention to the EQ’s policy on receiving gifts and benefits.  In particular, employees must refuse any offer of cash, or any items which are readily converted into cash — such as a lottery ticket or ‘scratchie’ or shares.

All gifts that have a value of more than $150 must be recorded in DETE’s gift registry. This includes a gift where a number of parents contribute to buy a gift.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Sajad Hussaini who competed at the Youth Wrestling National Championships, he won gold in the 52kg male under 11s division.

Book Fair

Thank you to Lara Purdie for organising and coordinating volunteers to make this year’s Book Fair a success.

There was a lovely book buzz around the school with children eager to share their book purchases with friends.

Communication

At Rochedale State School, we are committed to open, honest and timely communication. We are committed to communication being respectful, measured and constructive.

Teachers, like many professions, have seen their workload increase due to electronic communication such as emails. We recognise that email is very convenient for parents to contact teachers and this contact is valued in building a positive relationship between school and home.

Having said this, we know that the tone or intent of an email can sometimes mean the recipient may not fully understand the message or misinterpret the tone. Please consider if an email is the most appropriate form of communication if there is an issue or a concern. Before sending an email, I would ask you to read the email and ask if it’s respectful and helpful. When you have a concern seek to clarify rather than accuse.

All staff will respond to email in a timely manner, during business hours.  Some staff may choose to respond outside of these hours and this is their choice to do so. However, there is no expectation that staff will respond to emails after 4.00 pm and before 8.00 am. We would expect that staff would respond to an email within two school days.

Report Card preparation – Getting ready for reports via email

Report Cards will be emailed home on Tuesday 6 December, please note the change of date. Emailing report cards has a significant impact on the environmental footprint of the school by reducing printing and paper usage.

Report cards will not be distributed prior to 6 December.

To ensure that parents/carers receive their child’s report card we need to update family contact details. If your contact details have changes please contact the school office. Where students reside in two homes, it is important that all family members have the correct information listed with the school, so both parents/carers will receive a report card via email.

To ensure you receive your child’s report card please add the following email to your safe senders list so the report card email isn’t sent to the Junk folder.

2023 Staffing
Mrs Nicola Leslie, Deputy Principal, Prep and Year 1, has accepted the Professional Learning Leader role for the Queensland Association of State School Principals (QASSP) for 2023. She will start in the role in January.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Mrs Leslie and we wish her every success.  We are currently in the process of advertising a Deputy position to replace her.

Your Child. Our Student. One Team.
Safe and respectful school communities

Your child, our student. One team.

We all deserve respectful, safe and non-violent environments, so aggression and harassment of any kind—physical, verbal or otherwise—isn't acceptable.

When you interact with school staff, remember we're all on the same team to support your child. We all have your child's best interests at heart, and the best way to achieve a positive learning experience is to work together

Tuckshop Day - 4 November 2022

The daily efforts of our tuckshop workers and the many volunteers who support our students and our school have been tremendous this year.

We should remember to say please and thank you every day, but on Tuckshop Day, Friday 4 November, we will say a very special thank you to this wonderful team.

Our tuckshop provides a great service that helps out families who have to juggle many different tasks at the start of each day and some good food helps the students study and play through the day.

We don’t take their hard work for granted and it is great to see parents putting up their hands and getting involved with our school. Thank you everyone.

2023 Classes

Published by Rochedale State School

At the end of every year the teaching and leadership team at Rochedale State School spend many, many hours forming our future classes for the following year.  We work with the single aim of creating balanced classes ensuring that children are placed in the best class for their needs.  This year we are piloting a computer platform , ClassSolver, to streamline our student placement processes.  The digital platform won’t replace our already successful processes or the expertise of our teachers, but rather save us time and support us as we grow larger to make the best decisions possible.

Rochedale parents have always have had the ability to put in educational requests in writing for consideration for the following year and this process will remain.  Parent requests that are supported will be entered into the algorithm by the leadership team.  Please note, there is no function for parents to enter in requests directly to the site.

For your information, the Queensland Government Risk Review Team has deemed ClassSolver appropriate for use in schools. The service is a private company that is hosted onshore in Australia and as a result is covered under Victoria’s legal jurisdiction.

Existing student data will be downloaded and stored by a third-party data management service.  As such, we do require parents/carers to grant individual permission for this specific site.  Consent forms were sent out via email and paper copy last week, please complete and return to the office by 4 November.
