Amber COVID Status

On Thursday 10 November, the Premier has today announced that Queensland is moving from the green traffic light status to Amber (Tier 1).This means there are moderate rates of community transmission of COVID-19.

In addition to the precautions you should take for the green traffic light status, such as staying home when sick and testing for COVID-19 if you have acute respiratory symptoms, the amber advice recommends:

  • wear a mask
    • in healthcare settings
    • indoors, if you can't physically distance
    • on public transport
    • if you are older or medically at risk
    • if you're around people who are vulnerable to COVID-19
  • take a rapid antigen test (RAT) every 2 days if someone in your household has COVID-19.

Effective hygiene practices are key to limiting community transmission of disease. Remember to wash your hands regularly, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and open windows to promote air flow.

Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell.

2023
School resumes on Monday 23 January 2023 for all children from Prep to Year 6. All state schools are staffed on the Day 8 Enrolment data collection at the start of the school year. Whether we form straight classes or multi-age classes is dependent on enrolment numbers on Day 8 – 2 February 2023. Parents are reminded that class composition, teacher year level allocations and class placements are all subject to adjustment post Day 8.

For audit purposes, it is vital we have correct enrolment numbers at the commencement of the 2023 school year. If you will be returning later than the school start date, please also indicate your intended date of return and reason such as visiting family overseas. You will be requested to complete an acceptable evidence form, please email Jane Jeffrey jjeff157@eq.edu.au

Please note that classes and teachers can change depending on enrolment numbers.

Prep Minibeasts Incursion

Last week, our Prep students participated in the Minibeasts Incursion Program with Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre.

The students:

  • Investigated and identified living things in a garden habitat using scientific equipment and processes
  • Identified the needs of livings things in the garden including plants and animals
  • Determined how living things use their external features to survive in their habitat

Remembrance Day

For the past week, our school council representatives assisted Mrs Floyd to sell Remembrance Day badges and pens.  Our community raised $165 to support the Mt Gravatt Sub Branch of Returned & Services League. All funds are directed to the welfare support of veterans and their families.

EQ’s policy on received gifts and benefits

As we move into the Christmas period I know that many parents wish to give teacher’s a gift to thank them for the year.  I wanted to draw your attention to the EQ’s policy on receiving gifts and benefits.  In particular, employees must refuse any offer of cash, or any items which are readily converted into cash — such as a lottery ticket or ‘scratchie’ or shares.

All gifts that have a value of more than $150 must be recorded in DETE’s gift registry. This includes a gift where a number of parents contribute to buy a gift.

Your Child. Our Student. One Team.Safe and respectful school communities

Let’s collaborate

Working with your child’s school can create great outcomes for your child. You can get better ideas about how to best support learning at home, and school staff can better understand your child’s unique needs.

Together we can help build a safe and respectful school community for staff, students, parents and community members.

Junior Swimming Carnivals

Published by Rochedale State School

2022 JUNIOR SWIMMING CARNIVALS

 (Year 1 / Year 2 / Year 3)

Parents and friends are encouraged to come along and enjoy the carnivals to observe how much the students have developed their swimming skills.

The emphasis of the junior swimming sessions is based on fun and participation while allowing for some competitiveness.

The concept of having 3 separate sessions is to reduce the amount of time/ and sun exposure to our children.

Please ensure your child has swim wear / towel / goggles (if needed) and sunscreen for their swimming day.

This term the carnivals will be in 3 separate carnivals whereby each year level will have their own carnival.  Each carnival will be held in the first session, there will be swimming races: 25m with and without a board also a short course (10m) with or without a board.

Year 1’s swimming session    -     Monday November 28 - 9.15am to 10.30 - week 9

Year 2’s swimming session    -     Tuesday November 29 - 9.15am to 10.30 - week 9

Year 3’s swimming session    -     Wednesday November 30 - 9.15am to 10.30 - week 9

Senior Swimming Carnival

Published by Rochedale State School

TERM 4 SENIOR SWIMMING CARNIVALS

The senior swimming carnival this term has been altered from previous years program.

Last year’s senior swimming carnival was such a popular event with a considerable amount parent and friends attending, it was deemed a safety concern for all who attended.

The grandstand was over capacity and the surrounding available space was very limited to spectate and to officiate the swimming carnival.

So, in light pool site capacity and layout from last year it is anticipated that the senior carnival will be split into 2 to alleviate the congestion in the pool complex.

The year levels will be split into :

Carnival 1

Friday November 25 - 11 yrs (date of birth 2011) & 12 yrs ( date of birth 2010)

Carnival 2

Thursday December 1 - 9 yrs (date of birth 2013) & 10 yrs ( date of birth 2012)

Each carnival will commence at 9:00am and finish at 10:50am – 2 hour duration.

The points tally from both carnivals will determine the house champions for 2022.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

  • all student will be encouraged to participate in the 25m or 50m events.
  • all swimmers will score points for their house regardless of place.
  • there will be only (6) students swimming the premier 50 metres events: the fastest 6 students (based on time) across all age groups in the all four strokes will be allowed to swim in the 50m – and placement of first, second or third will go towards points for the age championship.
  • all 25m events will only contribute to the house points and not to the age championship.
  • NB – those students who are not named in the Premier 50m events will swim the 25m events.
  • All students are to participate in the carnival and must bring cap / goggles (optional) / towel / swim wear / water bottle and sunscreen.  I would like every student to participate and have a “go” at all the events to try score points for their house.
  • any child wishing to swim, they must participate in the correct carnival based on their year of birth
  • can compete without a swim shirt (rashee)
  • IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE TO BE NAMED THE FASTEST IN THEIR AGE GROUP ACROSS THE STROKES WILL BE PLACED ON THE DOORS OF RPAC IN WEEK 7.

From the senior 2022 swimming carnivals our school swim team will be determined and these students (who have met the qualifying times) will have the opportunity to participate at the Mt Gravatt District Swimming trials on February 9 2023.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your understanding and your continued support. We are still committed to the new menu, and we will continue it update it over the coming weeks. Here at Rochedale State School Snack Shack, we are very lucky to have a very supportive community and we appreciate how the families have maintained the support. Colour Run Prizes.

Over 1100 Individual Prizes were received and have now all been sorted and sent to classes. Unfortunately, after distributing all the prizes we discovered that we were missing a box or two from our delivery. The company has been contacted and the missing prizes are on their way. Once received, checked and bagged they will also be sent to the classroom teacher’s pigeonhole for distribution. This may take a few days. This means that all Prep classes are missing at least one item. So we appreciate your patience.

Our next General Meeting - Tuesday November 22 at 7pm. All are welcome. We will be saying goodbye to some of our Executives at the end of this year. Why not come along to a meeting, no need to join immediately. There are many benefits of volunteering. Volunteering provides you with a sense of purpose, a sense of community, it increases your social skills and allows you to make many new friends. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to pandc@rochedalss.eq.edu.au
