The Instrumental Music Program at Rochedale State School is a co-curricular music program and follows the Education Queensland Instrumental Music Curriculum. Many of our students participate in this program which offers exceptional music education through participation in group lessons and instrumental ensembles.
**Please note that if selected, students can only be in one of the strings of band programs, not both.
Instrumental strings program
(Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)
A recruitment and selection process occurs in Term 3 & 4 of Grade 2, to select students to begin in the strings program for the following year. String lessons commence in Grade 3 for the selected students, and those students are expected to continue for the remainder of their time at Rochedale SS.
30 min String lessons happen during class time and are held in the Instrumental Music Room in the Gym.
Beginner String Ensemble is for the string students in Grade 3. Rehearsals are once a week outside of school hours from Term 2.
Intermediate String Ensemble is for Grade 4 string students and Senior String Ensemble is for the string students in Grades 5 & 6. Both groups rehearse once a week outside of school hours.
Instrumental band program
(Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Percussion)
A recruitment and selection process occurs in Term 3 & 4 of Grade 3, to select students to begin in the band program for the following year. Instrumental lessons commence in Grade 4 for the selected students, and those students are expected to continue for the remainder of their time at Rochedale SS.

Beginner Band is for the instrumental students in Grade 4. Rehearsals are once a week outside of school hours from Term 2.
Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band are for the instrumental students in Grade 5 & 6. Rehearsals are once a week outside of school hours. (Students will be allocated to one of these ensembles.)
The Choirs are an extra-curricular activity, open to anyone in the relevant grades (not audition based), as long as they commit to coming to all rehearsals and performances.
Grade 2 Choir, Grade 3 Choir, Grade 4 Choir & Senior Choir (Grades 5 & 6) each have one rehearsal each week, outside of school hours.
