The focus within primary school
education is the on the development of the whole child, socially, emotionally,
physically, intellectually and culturally. The International Baccalaureate –
Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP), facilitates a framework to support this
The IB-PYP is a part of an international
education oraganisation, educating children from 3 – 18 years old in over 100
countries around the world. The programmes facilitated by the IB are child
centered, concept focused and utilise an inquiry approach to learning and teaching.
The IB educational philosophy and practices are driven by the belief that
children construct conceptual understandings by building upon what they
already know. In addition to the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the
International Baccalaureate offers a Middle Years Programme (MYP) and a Diploma
Program for senior students.
Learning in an IB-PYP school is focused
upon each child developing a deep enduring understanding of each of the 7 key
concepts: Form, Function, Causation, Change, Connection, Responsibility and Perspective. Learning is facilitated through a comprehensive
inquiry based transdisciplinary Programme of Inquiry. It is through this
programme that Rochedale State School
delivers the mandated Australian National Curriculum.
